Question: Can laser eye surgery improve one's vision to 20/8...?
(Posted by: jaf m o on 2010-01-29 23:11:43)
I operate cranes and need to see small objects from a distances between 70 to 110 feet away. My vision is fine now. I'm concerned about my eye sight years from now since both of my parents wear glasses. |

Hi i was 20/ 200 real near sited in both eyes and i am 48 rs old , i recently like 1 year ago had lasik surgery to correct my vision , you will have to see if you are a candidate for the surgery some people are not and cant be corrected or have to have a different type of surgery .they give you a simple test and it doesn't hurt at all , with me i was a candidate and had the surgery . After surgery i came out with 20/ 15 vision , and after 1 year my eyes have settled out at 20/ 20 and 20/ 25 . i used dr. distefano in chattanooga,tn . I researched her on line and found she was one of the nations best and and is highly recommended . She was a slight bit higher in cost than some others , but hey i thought i only have one set of eyes so i want the best i can afford and she is a great doctor and knows her stuff . My surgery cost me $4200.00 for both eyes and 1 years follow up visits and a touch up surgery if needed . I can tell you this i am so glad i had the surgery i now don't have to use glasses except to read with ,which is ok with me , i have all my Peripheral vision and see great , the surgery didn't hurt at all and only took about 2 to 3 Min's to do and she does it all with lasers no blades at all , it is like looking at a small red blinking light no pain at all . and you can see right after the surgery . I had 20/ 15 vision after surgery and was amazed as my wife drove me home as to how much detail and clarity i could see with. Much better than i had ever had with contacts or glasses. Here is her web site you can go to and get answers on questions about eyes and lasik surgery questions , i hope this info helps you out.... distefanolaser.com phone number for her office is 423-648-3937 good luck.. |

My vision is bad right now too. like 20/ 50. But 20/ 8 is the best recorded. So yeah... prolly not man. Anythings possible with time and intelligence tho. |

If it were possible, you probably won't be able to find a doctor that would do it. I don't know about long term, but having too good of vision for glasses and contacts will make you nauseous. That's why the eye doctor's try not to overdo it. |

If glasses improve your vision to 20/ 8, Laser surgery may too. If glasses do not improve your vision to 20/ 8, laser won't either. |

It is rare to have 20/ 8 vision. 20/ 8 vision means that what objects normal people can see only at 8 feet, you can see from 20 feet again. Most people are 20/ 20. A minority of people are 20/ 15. Rarely does anyone have 20/ 8 vision in each eye. Sometimes people can see 20/ 8 with both eyes open. LASIK or laser eye surgery is for reducing one's dependence on wearing glasses to see clearly. If you have 20/ 8 vision now, then perhaps after LASIK you can eliminate your distance correction, and get 20/ 8 vision. But this is now always possible. Sometimes LASIK will improve your vision. Especially, new lasers with wavefront customization will improve vision. However, that is not the current goal of LASIK laser eye surgery, and you should not count on it happening in your case. |
